Description

A classic French sandwich, the Croque Monsieur is a warm, savory, and crispy treat perfect for a quick meal or brunch.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices of bread
  • 4 slices of ham
  • 4 slices of cheese (Gruyère or Emmental)
  • Butter
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
  3. On four slices, place one slice of ham and one slice of cheese.
  4. Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side facing out.
  5. Place the sandwiches on a baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes, until golden.
  6. Serve hot.

Notes

For an added kick, spread some mustard on the bread before adding ham and cheese. You can also use whole grain bread for a healthier option.
