- 4 slices of pain de mie
- 4 slices of jambon
- 4 slices of cheese (like gruyère or emmental)
- 2 tablespoons of beurre
- 1/4 cup of lait
- 2 œufs
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F).
- Butter one slice of pain de mie on one side and place it buttered side down in a baking dish.
- Add a slice of jambon and a slice of cheese on top of the bread.
- Cover with another slice of pain de mie, buttered on the top.
- In a bowl, whisk the eggs with a bit of lait, salt, and pepper.
- Pour the egg mixture over the croque monsieur.
- Bake for about 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden.
- Serve hot.
Notes
Serve the Croque Monsieur hot, accompanied by a simple green salad for a balanced meal. It can also be paired with fries or soup for a heartier lunch. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for a day or two.
